youremyvitamins: On today in 1988 Nirvana play at The Vogue in Seattle. The P.A. malfunctions & the band play badly. Jonathan Poneman (Co-founder of Sub Pop) got the band this show. Charles Peterson is in the audience & recalls that there were about 20 people in attendance. He is so unimpressed that he doesn’t take any photographs & asks Poneman if he really wanted to sign them. Poneman was not particularly impressed either and Kurt later said “We totally sucked. We fucked it up”. Mark Arm was also there checking out this new band which was causing such a fuss.
